As physiotherapists, we have all undergone additional training in the use of acupuncture for musculoskeletal conditions
Acupuncture involves inserting very fine needles (it's not like an injection) into certain points around the body to help in the reduction of pain and inflammation in the joints, muscles and soft tissues
Acupuncture has been around for over 2000 years and can be particularly helpful in alleviating chronic pain in conditions such as arthritis of the hip, knees, neck and lower back. It can also be helpful in treating headaches, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia
Understandably, some patients are not keen on having needles stuck into them but we are happy to explain how they work and always willing to demonstrate by jabbing ourselves and trying not to wince! You may even be offered a sticker if very brave!!
